Quantum Lab
Quantum computing, one experiment at a time.

What changes when a computer follows the rules of quantum physics?
QuantumLab was created to explore this question through small experiments: you observe a circuit, try to predict the result, change an operation, and discover what happens.
It is a free educational laboratory for Windows. It runs on your PC, allowing you to explore the principles of quantum computing through interactive simulations, guided lessons, and challenges to solve.
START WITH CURIOSITY
The journey begins with two possible outcomes—much like flipping a coin (heads or tails).
Then comes the first surprise: in the quantum model, repeating a specific operation can eliminate the very uncertainty it had just created.
From there, step by step, you encounter superposition, interference, and entanglement.
You can tackle the initial experiments without knowing the formulas, though the manual also supports those who wish to delve deeper into the mathematics.
WATCH, TRY, BUILD
- Follow 21 activities: four introductory demonstrations, ten construction challenges, and seven lessons on algorithms.
- Step through the circuits one operation at a time and observe how amplitudes, phases, and probabilities change.
- Build and modify your own circuits using the visual editor.
- Record a prediction and compare it with theoretical probabilities and simulated outcomes.
- Perform a measurement or repeat 1,000 independent preparations to explore the role of chance.
- Tackle challenges with progressive hints and solution verification.
- Explore the algorithms of Deutsch, Bernstein, Vazirani, and Grover, including by changing problem parameters.
- Save your circuits and export the results to continue your work or discuss it in class. A GUIDE ALWAYS AT HAND
A GUIDE ALWAYS AT HAND
QuantumLab offers an interface and manual in both Italian and English. The guide is integrated into the program, accessible offline, and linked to the activities: you can start with a specific question and delve deeper whenever you feel the need.
FOR THE CURIOUS, STUDENTS, AND TEACHERS
You can use it for a first encounter with quantum computing, to support an explanation, or to create a small laboratory activity.
The idea is simple: first you form a hypothesis, then you experiment, and finally, you try to explain the result.
WHAT IT SIMULATES
The program calculates the behavior of small, ideal quantum circuits on your PC. The displayed amplitudes offer an educational window into the mathematical model; on a real device, you cannot read all of them directly in a single measurement. QuantumLab helps you understand how algorithms work; it does not measure speed advantages over traditional computers.
Start with "The Quantum Coin." Then try "The Second Hadamard": the interesting question is, what do you expect before seeing the result?
QuantumLab offre interfaccia e manuale in italiano e inglese.
