Close-up Focusing - OfficinaTurini

When the object is at a distance lower than the minimum focalization distance, the luminous rays focus themselves in a point beyond the sensor, therefore the image turns out not to focus. For the focusing it is possible to use two methods:

a) Extension pipes

They are the link which are inserted between the objective and the telecamera. They move out the objective from the telecamera, approaching it to the object to be shootted. By this way, the point of convergence of the luminous rays is moved so as to be on the sensor. However the field depth is reduced, therefore turns out to focus only the objects around of a certain distance. Changing the distance of the object, is necessary to change also the thickness of the extension pipe The use of the extension pipes is not recommended with zoom objectives.

b) Close-up lenses

They are additional lenses useful to correct the convergence of the luminous rays and then reduce at the minimum the focalization distance. They are applied on the front part of the objective itself. The close-up lenses are characterized by a parameter said diopter, that measures the strength of it and that is defined as the reciprocal  of the distance of focusing of the object (in meters).

Example:
A close-up lens with a force of +4 diopters, will focus an object placed to the distance of 25 cm  ( 1/4 m ), without considering the focal length of the objective.

Formula:        D=1/d

b) Lenti di close-up
